Planned Giving

“Come with us and we will do you good” – a quote from the banner carried by textile workers during the 1852 labor strike in Amesbury

To succeed, just like Amesbury’s striking workers, we need our community to stand with us and support our work. And in order to fulfill the mission of the Amesbury Carriage Museum we will need the ongoing financial support of our members, businesses and the community. We hope you will help us!

The Amesbury Carriage Museum is a 501c3, non-profit organization with a mission to champion the history of Amesbury’s industry and people. Founded in 1986, the museum is dedicated to preserving and maintaining stories and artifacts from Amesbury’s carriage and related industries that shaped our community.

The future of the museum will be influenced by our ability to build new sources of financial support. With this in mind, in 2017 the Board of Directors established an endowment fund that is managed by the Essex County Community Foundation. Contributions can be made to this fund, with 100% of the proceeds available for the use of the museum. We encourage our members and friends to consider the museum in your estate planning and to recognize how a legacy gift would influence our future.

You can support our work with a legacy gift.  Such a gift is provided either through a revision of a will or by adding a codicil. A legacy gift is a way of supporting ACM with a more significant gift than a donor might able to make from immediate resources. The provision of a legacy gift should be discussed with your attorney who can provide guidance and legal counsel.

For your information:

There are a variety of legacy/planned giving vehicles. The simplest legacy gifts are bequests which you include in your will. Bequests generally include a designated amount of your estate, or such things as real estate or securities. You can also designate a residuary bequest which allocates a percentage of your estate after it has been distributed.

An example of standard language for a bequest:

“I give, devise and bequeath (bequest amount) to the Amesbury Carriage Museum, a non-profit organization located in Amesbury, Massachusetts (non-profit ID# xxxxx) for general purposes, or, in support of the endowment (or, insert the purpose).”

In addition to a bequest there are a variety of options you can use to provide a legacy gift including:

Charitable Gift Annuities
Charitable Lead Trusts
Charitable Remainder Trusts
Life Insurance
Real Estate

Your attorney can advise the best Planned Giving vehicle for you to support the ACM. If you have questions or would like to discuss your interest in a Legacy or Planned Giving donation, please contact:  John Mayer, Executive Director, Amesbury Carriage Museum. (978) -834-5058 or jmayer@amesburycarriagemuseum.com
